Why is this so important?
Your wedding is one of the most meaningful days of your life, but that doesn’t mean you should overspend. Weddings are already a significant investment, and without a realistic budget strategy, costs can spiral quickly. The key? Understanding how to divide your weddingbudget wisely before booking venues or suppliers. Most couples start with an overall budget and then search for suppliers, but flipping this approach—by first allocating your weddingbudget strategically—will save you stress, time, and money, while ensuring your budget is spent on what truly matters to you.
What is the average weddingbudget?
In the Netherlands the average wedding budget lies around 30K for a wedding. With this budget you can have a beautiful and sophisticated wedding. When you want to get married abroad, it is even more important to have a clear budget strategy and create the right expectations. But let’s be honest, figuring out what’s realistic for your wedding budget can be overwhelming, so let me help you out!
What is realistic for my budget?
First of all there is an important key rule, no matter the budget: 40% of your budget should be spent on the location and catering, the rest will be divided upon suppliers. If the location takes up more of your budget, there is a big chance you will go over budget, so always keep that in mind. Now let’s focus on what is realistic for your budget!
WEDDING OF 10K-25K | WEDDING OF 25K-50K | WEDDING OF 50K OR MORE | |
---|---|---|---|
Guest Count | maximum of 50 guests | between 50-120 guests | between 100-200 guests |
Location | Typically small, intimate locations outside major cities | Typically bigger and private locations, possibly within the city | Big and gorgeous locations, sometimes abroad |
Key Investment | Location and catering | Weddingplanner (at this point it will save you a lot of time, money and stress, by securing quality suppliers, helping you make the right choices and sharing expertise) | Weddingplanner (you cannot plan this type of wedding alone) & location |
Priorities | Keeping things elegant yet simple | A balance between quality service, beautiful design, and unforgettable experiences | High quality service, unique design and experience and letting someone take care of everything for you |
Common Mistake | Inviting to many guests or wanting to get married in a big city | Spending to much budget on one supplier | Not keeping high travel costs in mind and not sharing expectations with guests, which can lead to huge expenses |
The key to the perfect wedding
The perfect wedding isn’t about how much you spend, it’s about how well you plan. With a clear vision, the right guidance, and a realistic approach to budgeting, you can create a wedding that is both breathtaking and financially sound.
